Inmate who escaped New Hampshire jail recaptured in New York, officials say

An inmate who escaped from a New Hampshire jail was recaptured in another state, officials said Wednesday. Peter Dibiaso escaped Monday night from the Belknap County Jail.He was found in Corning, New York after someone tipped off local law enforcement, officials said. “I am proud of everyone who worked tirelessly on this case, from Belknap County, the US Marshals and all of our local partners both here in NH and NY that made this quick arrest possible,” said U.S. Marshal Nick Willard.Dibiaso, 57, escaped the jail through a laundry room door that wasn’t wired to an alarm and then climbed a 10-foot high fence that didn’t have barbed wire.A K-9 search was conducted Monday night, but he was not found. Officials said he left the Laconia area in a vehicle that was recently reported stolen. Dibiaso was found with the stolen vehicle in Corning around noon and was arrested by local police. According to the Belknap County Department of Corrections online inmate search, Dibiaso was awaiting trial on a series of charges, including domestic violence, criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, stalking and being an armed career criminal.A reward of up to $2,500 was offered by the U.S. Marshals-New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force for information leading directly to DiBiaso’s location and arrest.

Dibiaso was found with the stolen vehicle in Corning around noon and was arrested by local police.
