$1K reward offered in animal cruelty case after cat found submerged in pond

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is offering a reward for information on an animal cruelty incident in Burton. 

Beaufort County Animal Services responded to Magnolia Park Apartments, 314 Laurel Bay Road, in reference to a stray cat on the property just before Thanksgiving. 

The officers set a trap for the cat on Nov. 23, but when they returned to retrieve it the next day, the trap was missing.

Deputies found the trap submerged in a pond on the property, with the stray cat dead inside. 

It was later confirmed the cat died of drowning. 

The Hilton Head Human Association is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrests of anyone responsible for the cat’s death.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
