Police are still looking for the arsonist who set fire to the playground at Montvue Park over the weekend and the city offered a $10,000 reward on Monday.

The reward is for information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the culprit or culprits. The motive behind the arson is still unknown.

“This is the third time in recent years that specific playground was damaged by fire,” Assistant City Manager Mark Gluba said.

It would cost about $200,000 to $250,000 to replace the damaged components of the playground, he added.

No one was injured in the fire, which was reported to Pomona Police at 11:12 p.m. on Sunday, said Aly Mejia, police spokeswoman.

Officers found the playground on fire at the park at 1555 Cordova St.

Firefighters arrived shortly after the police, Mejia said.

The playground is unusable due to the fire, according to a police statement.

Police asked anyone with information about the fire to call them at 909-622-1241 or email them at ppdmedia@pomonaca.gov. Anonymous tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or go to lacrimestoppers.org
