$5,000 reward offered in Minot school vandalism

MINOT (AP) — The Minot School District is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of people who vandalized a middle school being built to replace one lost to flooding two years ago.

It will cost more than $100,000 to clean and repair Eric Ramstad Middle School following two vandalism incidents last week, Superintendent Mark Vollmer said. Vandals splattered walls with paint and the next night set two fires, causing smoke damage throughout the building but no structural damage.

The school will replace one destroyed by Souris River flooding in the summer of 2011. Security at the construction site has been increased, Vollmer said.

Classes for Ramstad students have been held in the Minot Municipal Auditorium the past two years. The new school is still scheduled to open after the Thanksgiving break.

“The cleaning company will be working around the construction,” Vollmer said. “We do not anticipate any delay.”
