Reward offered for New Mexico man’s dog that got away while passing through Selma

A man from New Mexico, Clovis is offering $500 for the return of his dog, Austin, who got out of his car in Selma.

“He’s an emotional support dog. He’s family to a lot of people,” Gary Harmon said, of the half-Corgi, half-Australian Shepherd.

Harmon and Sylvester Mayfield were delivering horses from New Mexico on Wednesday, when they stopped at a Valero Gas station off Highway 99 and Floral Avenue.

While there, Sylvester’s dog got out and he could not find him.

“The clerk said he had been walking on the sidewalk,” Harmon said.

At one point, Harmon says a couple in a car lured his dog.

“I guess supposedly they bribed him with some food or something and got him in the car,” Harmon said.

Now instead of going back home to New Mexico to work, they are staying in the area trying to find Austin.

Selma police looked at surveillance video that captured a license plate of a car the couple was driving.

They say the plates are registered to someone in Vista in San Diego County and are going to contact the Vista Police Department to have someone make contact with the couple in the video.

The clerk at the store said he has seen the couple before and believed they are from the area.

If you think you saw Austin or the car, please call (575) 640-2757.
