Coxsackie man pleads guilty to sexually assaulting a child

CATSKILL– A Coxsackie man was sentenced to eight years in state prison Tuesday in Greene County Court after pleading guilty to sex crimes involving a child.

David Rollins, 58, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, a class B felony.

Authorities said Collins engaged in sexual conduct with a child starting when the child was under the age of 11 and continuing for years.

In addition to an eight-year prison term, Rollins was sentenced to 20 years of post-release supervision. The court also imposed a 48-year order of protection for the victim.

Under the New York Penal Code, someone has committed course of sexual conduct against a child in the first degree if within a period of 3 months the person engages in at least 2 acts of sexual conduct with a person who is less than 11 years old, or the person is at least 18 years old and engages in at least 2 acts of sexual conduct with a person who is less than 13 years old.

Rollins was arrested on Sunday, December 25, 2022 by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office after a multiple day investigation.

The Thursday before his arrest, the sheriff’s office received a report of a possible sexual assault of a child; that investigation led to Rollins’ arrest.

Rollins was originally charged with predatory sexual assault against a child, a class A-II felony, first-degree rape, a class B felony, and first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, a class B felony, police said.

Following his arrest, Rollins was arraigned in Coxsackie Town Court and remanded to the Greene County Jail without bail.

As Rollins was charged with felony counts, the case moved from town court to county court.

The higher court set bail and on January 27, 2023, Rollins was released from the Greene County Jail after posting a $100,000 bond.

The decision to set bail was partly influenced by the state’s bail laws.

“He was released on bond with an ankle monitor so that he can be tracked by probation at all times,” District Attorney Joseph Stanzione said previously. “The risk to the public is greatly reduced by the use of the ankle monitor. An order of protection has been issued for the victim and any violation will result in his incarceration.”

Rollins will return to court on May 28 for sentencing, Stanzione said.
