HOLBROOK, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A Long Island man was arrested on animal cruelty charges this week for fatally injuring a senior dog and threatening the animal’s owner in December, Suffolk County Police said Thursday.
Scott A. Walker, 44, was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, animal cruelty, criminal mischief, second-degree aggravated harassment and third-degree coercion.
His arrest at a Valero convenience store in Holbrook on Wednesday night came weeks after he allegedly kicked the dog at his house.
During the altercation, he also threatened the dog’s owner, who’s a resident of the same home, police said, without elaborating.
The dog, an 11-year-old, mixed breed male named Jager, was taken to an animal hospital but ultimately died.
The hospital reported Jager’s death as suspicious to the Suffolk County SPCA on Dec. 20, leading to an investigation, police said.
Walker was expected to be arraigned in Central Islip on Thursday.
