Man faces animal cruelty charges, 11 dogs seized

Malnourished dogs, one with injuries, found in van, Madison police say

Madison police seized 11 malnourished dogs, including one with injuries consistent with dog fighting, during a traffic stop.An officer with the department’s criminal interdiction unit stopped a van Tuesday on Interstate 55 in Madison. The officer searched the vehicle and said he found marijuana and the dogs in multiple crates throughout the van, according to a release from the Madison Police Department.All of the dogs were taken to a veterinarian for emergency care and treatment, Capt. Kevin Newman said in the release. The driver, 56-year-old Edward T. Bronaugh, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, transporting dogs for the purpose of dog fighting and animal cruelty. Bonaugh is being held at the Madison County Detention Center.Police said the investigation is ongoing.
