Manchester man pleads guilty to sex abuse ahead of trial

A Manchester man has pleaded guilty to charges of sexual abuse and attempted criminal sexual act, just days before his trial was set to begin.

Thor R. Baker, 40, of Port Gibson, entered an Alford plea on Friday, which means that he did not admit to committing the crime, but acknowledged that there was enough evidence to convict him at trial.

Baker was accused of sexually assaulting a minor in the town of Italy, and was arrested in June 2020 by the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.

As part of his plea agreement, Baker is set to be sentenced on March 14 by Judge Jason Cook to 180 days in jail, followed by 10 years of probation.

He will also be required to register as a sex offender. District Attorney Todd Casella stated that the plea deal was reached in the best interest of the victim and the community.
