PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence man who was found in possession of more than two thousand images of child sexual abuse has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison.

Juan C. Funes, 24, was found in possession of the images after Google provided information to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a Google account had been used to upload and store approximately 300 images and videos of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

This notification was made in April 2019.

Further investigation by the Rhode Island State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and Homeland Security found the account belonged to Funes.

Funes pleaded guilty previously to a charge of possession of child pornography and will be subject to eight years of federal supervised release after his sentence is completed.
