Wicomico man convicted of sexual abuse of minor

A two-day trial in Wicomico County Circuit Court ended with Kenny Vansant convicted of a slate of sexual abuse charges stemming from a 2016 incident.

The 38-year-old Wicomico County man was convicted Tuesday of sexual abuse of a minor, sexual offense in the second degree, and related offenses, the Wicomico County State’s Attorney said in a release.

Sentencing was deferred pending receipt of a mandatory pre-sentence investigation and mental health assessment. Vansant will remain in custody pending sentencing.

In the summer of 2016, Vansant sexually abused a family member, who was 8 years-old at the time, the release said.

Detective M. Rockwell of the Salisbury Police Department was the lead investigator with assistance from the office of Child Protective Services. Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Calabrese prosecuted the case.
