Yountville man convicted in 2019 child sexual abuse case

A Yountville man could spend the rest of his life in prison after a Napa County jury convicted him of molesting a 9-year-old girl in 2019, according to court documents.

Carlos Cabrera, 59, was found guilty Wednesday afternoon after a week-long trial in Napa County Superior Court on two felony counts of committing a lewd act on a minor, as well as one count of drug possession.

Judge Elia Ortiz on Friday scheduled Cabrera’s sentencing for April 11. The court also upheld special allegations – including previous sex offenses and felonies – that could result in 25 years to life in state prison for Cabrera, according to Carlos Villatoro, spokesperson for the Napa County District Attorney’s Office. One sex abuse count carries a term of 15 years to life, and the other a term of three to eight years.

Napa County sheriff’s deputies arrested Cabrera on Sept. 26 on a warrant issued one week earlier. The warrant arose from an investigation that began when a girl told Napa Police in February that her mother’s boyfriend had abused her when he was 9, police said shortly after Cabrera’s arrest.
