David LeBoeuf intervened in an altercation between his younger brother and another person, saving his 17-year-old brother’s life, his family said.

A 20-year-old man who was killed in a stabbing last week is being called a “hero” by his family after he apparently intervened in an altercation between his 17-year-old brother and the assailant, saving his brother’s life.

David LeBoeuf was identified as the victim of a fatal stabbing Friday night at the Northbridge Town Common, the Worcester District Attorney’s Office told Worcester Telegram and Gazette. His younger brother, 17, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Amy LeBoeuf, David LeBoeuf’s mother, said in a GoFundMe post that LeBoeuf intervened while his brother was being stabbed in “an altercation” with another person.

Both LeBoeuf and his brother were taken to UMass hospital, where LeBoeuf, who was stabbed in the chest area, died on May 4.

“He truly died a hero saving his brothers life,” LeBoeuf’s mother wrote on the GoFundMe page. “That’s who he was, would do anything for the people he cared for.”

The younger brother was stabbed four times but is in recovery, according to the GoFundMe.

A juvenile suspect was arraigned Monday morning in Worcester Juvenile Court on one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, officials said. Worcester County D.A. Joe Early said he expects the charges to be upgraded as the investigation continues.

LeBoeuf was engaged and expecting a child this year, according to the GoFundMe. He was also a lifelong baseball player and had recently started a new business and restaurant job, his mom wrote.

The GoFundMe, which is raising money for funeral services for LeBoeuf, had exceeded $16,000 Wednesday night.

“He had the biggest heart and the brightest smile,” Amy LeBoeuf wrote in the post. “He was the funny, mischievous, goofball, who loved to be in the spotlight. He touched so many lives and was a truly special person.”
