LAS CRUCES – After over a year of waiting, the locally filmed action movie “The Locksmith” is coming to theatres and on-demand Friday, Feb. 3.

“The Locksmith” is a thriller starring Kate Bosworth (“Blue Crush,” “21”), Ryan Phillippe (“Gosford Park,” “Cruel Intentions”) and Ving Rhames (“Pulp Fiction,” “Mission: Impossible II”). The film follows the story of an expert locksmith, Phillippe, who is recently released from prison and tries to find his way back into the lives of his daughter and ex-fiancé. His hopes for a fresh start are dashed after a kidnapping.

The movie was filmed in Las Cruces beginning in November 2021. The production team took over various areas in and around the city, including a scooter shop at the corner of Madrid Avenue and Solano Drive, near Apodaca Park.

The building was altered to look like the locksmith shop the production team needed. Traffic was stopped or rerouted at the time while filming took place. Viewers can spot various local landmarks in the movie’s trailer, including Pioneer Women’s Park.

Bosworth made a splash in Mesilla by visiting Rincón de Mesilla and B-Well Regenerative Medicine & Wellness Clinic.

“The Locksmith” is released in theatres Friday, including Allen Theatres’ Telshor 12, located at 2811 N. Telshor Blvd. People can find showtimes and ticket pricing online at www.allentheatresinc.com or at the theatre. The movie will also be available for streaming.
