SAN ANGELO, Texas — A San Angelo resident is being called a hero after rescuing two children from a fire.
The San Angelo Police Department said they received a call Sept. 14 about a fire in an apartment complex on Wildewood Drive when a resident in the complex, Thomas Ndlovu, saw the smoke coming from the apartment in his complex and heard two kids screaming.
Ndlovu ran upstairs and was able to get inside the apartment and bring the children safely outside of the building.
Fire officials determined the cause of the fire was due to an electric scooter charger in an upstairs apartment.
During the investigation into the fire, the San Angelo Fire Marshal’s Office determined that the children attempted to escape the apartment but were unable to do so because they were becoming disoriented.
The San Angelo Police Department and the San Angelo Police Officers Coalition presented Ndlovu with a Life Saving Award Wednesday.
In a press release, SAPD said they are grateful for Ndlovu’s brave actions that resulted in a positive outcome.
Our community is fortunate to have citizens like Thomas, who, in a time of crisis, put himself in grave danger to save others’ lives. We at the San Angelo Police Department are truly grateful that this incident resulted in lives saved rather than tragedy.
