VIDEO: Mayor saves family after car stalls on train tracks

A small-town mayor said he was just fulfilling the duties of his elected office when he saved a family whose car stalled on train tracks as a train approached.Eddie Daniels is the mayor of Vienna, Georgia. He told WALB that he was on his way to work when he saw the family’s car in a dangerous spot.”I couldn’t let those babies sit there and get slaughtered by a train,” he said. “I seen a lady in trouble, and I knew I had to do what I had to do.”Daniels said after helping the mother out of the car, he was able to get three kids — ages 6, 3 and 1 — to safety just in time.”I got the two small ones out. At that time, I seen the train and the 6-year-old, I was pulling her out and that’s when the train hit,” he said.Daniels ended up with eight stitches and a broken ankle from the impact but says stepping in to help was what he was supposed to do.”To know I’m just doing God’s work, that’s what we’re supposed to do,” he said. “And they told me I was a hero. I said I don’t feel like a hero, just feel like I’m doing what I’m supposed to do, what the people elected me to do. That was a little above the calling but I do what I gotta do.”
