White Co 7 year-old hailed as hero after saving family from fire

A northeast Georgia fire department honored a 7-year-old whose quick thinking saved his family from a house fire.

The White County Fire Department awarded Keegan Sinclair with a certificate during a special ceremony.

“Keegan, you were the hero of the night,” Director of Public Safety David L. Murphy, Jr. said. “We have these men and women that work every day running into burning buildings, answer the 911 calls. .. you’re part now of all these heroes.”

On Friday morning, Keegan went to his parents’ bedroom after he woke up and noticed his fan and nightlight weren’t working.

Savannah Sinclair said she thought at first the power in his room went out and told her son to head back to bed. Moments later, he came back to alert them about a fire.

“He went back in there, ‘Mommy, Daddy, I smell smoke. You need to wake up.’” she said.

Keegan’s father Kevin Sinclair said it was hard to tell where the fire was coming from. He ran outside and found the source.

“His bedroom was right on the other side of the wall from the fire,” he said.

By the time he got back out with a fire extinguisher, Kevin Sinclair said the fire had doubled in size. He is thankful that his son knew what to do.

Because of his actions, Keegan, his parents, and his 7-month-old brother have something extra to be grateful for this Thanksgiving
