$10K Reward For Arrest Of Wegmans Thief Who Hit Cop With Car: Police


GERMANTOWN, MD — A reward is being offered for tips that lead to the arrest of a man authorities said struck a Montgomery County Police officer with a car while fleeing a Wegmans store with stolen merchandise.

The assault occurred just after 2 p.m. on April 27 in the parking lot of the Wegmans at 20600 Seneca Meadows Parkway in Germantown. Officers went to the grocery store on the report of a theft in progress.

Investigators said the suspect entered the store, placed merchandise in a cart and left without paying. He walked across the street to the parking garage, where officers approached him.

According to a police news release, officers were unable to keep the suspect from getting in the vehicle. As he drove away, he struck an officer with the driver side of the vehicle.

Police followed the suspect’s vehicle, but they lost sight of it on I-270 South.

The officer was treated at an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives have released photos of the male suspect to help identify him.

The suspect is described as a Black male, about 5-feet, 10-inches tall, 200 pounds, dark hair and a muscular build and wearing a white/black baseball cap, a black T-shirt with a white Air Jordan logo on the left side of the chest, red shorts and red/white shoes.

Detectives believe this man has also stolen merchandise from several Home Depot stores in Maryland and Washington, D.C.

A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect. Callers may remain anonymous.
