1 injured in shooting outside Penn Hills bar

A man was hospitalized after a shooting Monday outside of a Penn Hills bar, according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI.

Investigators told reporters that the shooting happened following an argument inside H’s Bar and Grill on Verona Road around 12:30 a.m. The man was shot outside and taken to a hospital with injuries that are not life threatening, the station reported.

The bar was the scene of a shooting Feb. 4, 2019, that wounded a 26-year-old, and a November 2018 brawl in which two women were stabbed with broken beer bottles.


Crime Stoppers seek to ID human remains

Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers is hoping to identify a set of human remains found 19 years ago in a Washington County marsh. The skeletal remains were found by a mushroom farmer on May 12, 2004, near Hanover Township and removed by forensic anthropologists.

Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers is trying to identify a set of human remains found in Washington County in 2004. They released this sketch.

Investigators determined the remains were that of a Black woman, between 35 and 45 years old. Her death was the result of a homicide sometime after 2001, and she had been dead for about one year, investigators determined.

A DNA profile was developed by the Connecticut State Police crime lab, which was entered into the National Missing Person DNA database. Anyone with information about the woman’s identity or death is asked to call state police in Pittsburgh at 412-787-2000, Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers at 800-4PA-TIPS or submit a tip online here. A cash reward is available.


Police search for suspects in steel bar cutting

State police said they found freshly cut steel bars and an abandoned vehicle parked under Interstate 70 on Saturday in Washington County. Troopers said they were in the area around 9:30 p.m. after receiving several calls about one or two suspects cutting steel bars in the area in Canton.

Police spotted a Chevrolet pickup parked in the underpass with keys in the ignition, gloves on the hood and cutting tools in the bed. A saw that was still warm was found near the cut bars, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call troopers in Washington at 724-223-5200.


1 person hospitalized after Allentown shooting

A man was hospitalized in stable condition after Pittsburgh police said he may have suffered a graze wound after shots were fired Sunday in the city’s Allentown neighborhood. Police responded to ShotSpotter alerts in the 60 block of East Amanda Avenue around 7 p.m.

Investigators said they found two vehicles had been damaged by gunfire.


Foot Locker gift card scammer sought

State police in Indiana County are investigating a theft after someone posing as a government agent scammed a 60-year-old Homer City man out of $500 Foot Locker gift cards between December 2021 and April 2023.

The person claimed needing gift cards in exchange for a covid-19 relief grant, troopers said.


Woman arrested after breaking into home, hiding in basement, police say

While being interviewed by state police for a domestic incident, a 39-year-old Pittsburgh woman fled into a Braddock home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and barricaded herself inside, police said.

When the Corey Avenue homeowner arrived, police were able to get inside and found the woman hiding in a plastic tote bin in the basement.

The incident was preceded by a domestic call in which the woman was accused of breaking into a home and attacking someone inside, police said.

She was taken to the Allegheny County Jail, but no charges had been filed in connection with the incident Monday morning.


Police: 30 veteran grave markers stolen in Somerset County

Thirty bronze veteran grave markers were stolen from graves at Brotherton Pike Cemetery in Brothersvalley, Somerset County, between November and May.

The markers are valued at $10 each, according to state police.
