SIX. I BET YOU REMEMBER THE STORY IF YOU HEARD IT. THAT MODEL SAILBOAT, ONE WITH A LOT OF SENTIMENTAL VALUE, STOLEN FROM THE OLD KEYLIME HOUSE RESTAURANT IN LANTANA, IS NOW BACK IN THE HANDS OF THE OWNER. LAST WEEK WE SHOWED YOU THAT SURVEILLANCE VIDEO OF A MAN STEALING THE MODEL SAILBOAT FROM THE RESTAURANT LOBBY AND TONIGHT OUR SOOJI NAM HAS MORE ON HOW THE OWNER IS TURNING THIS HORRIBLE INCIDENT INTO AN UPLIFTING ENDING. THE SAILBOAT MODEL THAT WAS STOLEN FROM THE OLD KEY LIME HOUSE IN LANTANA HAS BEEN RECOVERED AND IS BACK PROTECTED BEHIND THIS FISH TANK SO THAT NOBODY CAN STEAL THIS PRECIOUS ITEM AGAIN. IT’S NOT JUST A SAILBOAT. TO THE OWNER OF THE OLD KEY LIME HOUSE, IT’S A SENTIMENTAL GIFT RYAN CORDERO RECEIVED WHEN HE WAS A CHILD FROM HIS LATE FATHER. AND ON MARCH 7TH, SURVEILLANCE VIDEO SHOWS THIS MAN STEALING THAT SAILBOAT FROM THE RESTAURANT LOBBY WITH THE HELP OF LANTANA POLICE, RYAN WAS ABLE TO IDENTIFY THAT MAN BY BACKTRACKING TO WHERE HE WAS SITTING AT THE RESTAURANT WITH HIS LOVED ONES, AND THEN CONTACTED HIS FRIENDS POLICE AND HELPED GET RYAN HIS BOAT BACK. THE COMMUNITY HAD SINCE JOINED IN ON THE SEARCH, INCLUDING OTHER LOCAL BUSINESS OWNERS WHO PITCHED IN TO THE CASH REWARD TO HELP FIND THE MAN. IT’S UNFORTUNATE THAT NOW YOU KNOW YOU NEED TO SCREW EVERYTHING DOWN, GLUE EVERYTHING TO A WALL. IF YOU DON’T WANT IT STOLEN BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE THAT. BUT, UH, A REALLY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO ROCCO. HE’S ANOTHER RESTAURANT OWNER IN THE AREA. HE STEPPED UP. HE PUT HIS MONEY WHERE HIS MOUTH WAS, AND, UH, GREATLY APPRECIATED. ROCCO DID A MAN AND, UH, THAT MONEY NOW IS GOING TO GO TO LITTLE SMILES. $1,000. SO IT’S GOING TO IT’S GOING TO BE SMILES AT THE END OF THE DAY FOR EVERYONE. AND RYAN HAS NOT DECIDED YET WHETHER HE’LL BE PRESSING ANY CHARGES. BUT HE DOES TELL ME THAT THAT MAN IS NEVER ALLOWED TO SET FOOT IN HIS RESTAURANT AGAIN.

The owner has not decided yet whether he will be pressing any charges against that man. He, however, will never be allowed to step foot into his restaurant again.

The sailboat model that was stolen from the Old Key Lime House in Lantana last month has been recovered and is in a safe space back at the restaurant. Last week, WPBF 25 News shared surveillance video from the restaurant, showing a man stealing the sailboat from the lobby. “It’s unfortunate that now you need to screw everything down, glue everything to a wall if you don’t want it stolen because it really seems like that,” Ryan Cordero, owner of the Old Key Lime House, told WPBF 25 News. For Cordero, it’s not just a model sailboat. It is a sentimental gift that he received as a child, from his late father. With the help of Lantana Police, he was able to find the identity of the man. He and his staff tracked the table the man and his friends were sitting at on March 7, and found the names of the cardholders. Cordero then provided the names of that man’s friends to police, who eventually interviewed the man about his actions that day. WPBF 25 News reached out to Lantana Police to ask more about the interrogation with that man and have not yet heard back. Since Cordero shared the news that someone had stolen his boat, other local business owners had pitched into the cash reward to help find the man. And now, Cordero and his friends are trying to find a positive out of something negative that had happened to him and his family. “Really special thank you to Rocco, he’s another restaurant owner; he stepped up he put his money where his mouth was,” Cordero said. “Greatly appreciated, Rocco the man, that money now is going to go to Little Smiles, $1,000. So, it’s going to be smiles at the end of the day for everyone.”Cordero has not decided yet whether he will be pressing any charges against that man. He, however, will never be allowed to step foot into his restaurant again.
