FBI offers $10K reward for information on Jelani Day’s death

CHICAGO — The FBI is offering up to a $10,000 reward for information regarding the death of Alabama A&M graduate Jelani Day.

According to FBI Chicago, the Jelani Day Joint Task Force (JDJTF) announced the reward with the aim of identifying new leads in his death. Day, who was attending Illinois State University, was reported missing on August 25 after officials say he didn’t return messages from a professor or from family.

The FBI said Day was last seen on the morning of August 24 at a store near the intersection of Veterans Parkway and General Electric Road in Bloomington, Illinois.

His body was discovered on September 4 in the Illinois River in Peru, Illinois, but wasn’t positively identified until September 23, according to the FBI.

The JDTF is also taking part in a nationwide social media campaign to identify new leads.

“Investigators believe the full cooperation of the public and Day’s close contacts may be key to understanding the facts and circumstances surrounding Day’s death,” said the FBI. “The JDJTF asks the public to submit tips – even anonymously – via 1-800-CALL-FBI.
