Police continue investigation of 1970 Cold Case, offer $5000 reward

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – PSP are continuing their investigation of missing 20-year-old Ilonka Cann, who was last seen at her home in Huntington Mills, Luzerne County on May 26, 1970. Cann would be 73-years-old today.

Her husband of two years, Charles Cann II, saw her at 7:20 a.m. before he went to his teaching job at the Berwick Junior High School. When he returned home at 3:30 p.m., Ilonka was gone and the couple’s fifteen-month-old son was alone in the house, crying in his crib upstairs. Charles reported her missing the next day.

Ilonka was reportedly pregnant at the time of her disappearance, and has never been heard from again.

Police say the facts and circumstances surrounding Ilonka’s disappearance are suspicious, and the case is being treated as a homicide.

An extensive search of the area, including a dive team checking a nearby pond, turned up no indication of Ilonka’s whereabouts.

The investigation continues to this day, with investigators recently draining two ponds and excavating an island on the Cann property in July 2022.
