Event honors Springfield firefighter who survived tragic childhood fire

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A Springfield firefighter was surprised Sunday with a celebration for him, 30 years after being part of a tragic accident.

Keith Clark, of the Springfield Fire Department survived an accident at four years old where he watched his own mother pass away, and at the same time helped save his 16-year-old brother who was trapped in the front seat.

Thirty years later, as a husband, father, and Springfield firefighter, he is dedicated to saving lives, inspired by those who saved his own and his brother’s. And so Clark’s wife organized a celebration Sunday afternoon at Victory Point Church where many of Clark’s family, friends, and fellow churchgoers got to honor the man who is paying it forward.

“There’s not enough words to express how I feel right now,” Clark expressed. “I just feel overwhelmed with love with all of these emotion…. and like my pastor was saying and just all the kind words just like, I’m just grateful.”

Clark has been with the Springfield Fire Department for over 8 years now, and he says the reason he became a firefighter was to save lives just like how his own life was saved.
