A garage in Antis Township was destroyed by a fast moving blaze Thursday afternoon.
The fire at 1690 Kerbaugh Dam Lane was called in about 2 p.m. by the homeowner, who was at home at the time of the fire, according to Capt. Brent Abbott of Excelsior Fire Department.
“When crews arrived, the structure was fully involved in fire and there was heavy smoke,” he said.
No one was in the structure at the time of the fire, but the homeowner went in and was able to save a Corvette and a side-by-side all-terrain vehicle, said the man’s son-in-law, who declined to be identified.
At least three other vehicles were destroyed, Abbott said, noting everything inside the garage and the structure itself was a total loss.
In addition, the siding on the back of the nearby home melted due to the heat of the flames, Abbott said.
The homeowner was transported to the hospital by ambulance, where he was treated and released, Abbott said.
Because of the location of the fire, there were some difficulties getting water to the scene.
“It was a struggle,” Abbott said. “But we managed to get it and get the fire under control.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state police fire marshal.
