KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — One firefighter and three people, including a child, were transported to the hospital after a house fire in East Knoxville on Friday, according to the Knoxville Fire Department.

KFD responded to a fire at 314 Dallas Street and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the house. They also found someone attempting to rescue a trapped person from the second floor, KFD said.

Officials went to the second floor and assisted in rescuing the occupant. Crews then discovered a child was removed from the residence prior to their arrival, according to KFD.

A third person was found in the home while crews extinguished the fire, KFD said.

The residents were taken to the hospital and their condition is unknown at this time, KFD said.

KFD firefighter Chris Patterson was “seriously injured” and underwent surgery, according to a tweet from Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon.

KFD said that Patterson’s recovery will likely take somewhere between six to eight weeks.

The fire was ruled an accident and was caused by items resting against a wall heater, according to KFD.
