A rescue dog at the U.S. Navy’s Navco Community Outreach was rescued again, but this time more dramatically, as firefighters had to rescue her from a burning building Tuesday.
According to Mobile Fire-Rescue, crews responded to a fire at the community outreach on Navco Road. When they arrived, firefighters found the front of the building with heavy flames and smoke.
All of the occupants of the outreach and those in adjacent buildings had already evacuated prior to firefighters’ arrival, but they advised that “Ginger,” a rescue dog, was trapped inside at the back of the building.
With fire suppression efforts started at the front of the building, search and rescue personnel were able to make entry and rescue Ginger from the fire. She was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and released to her owner.
Firefighters battled the blaze for about 35 minutes to get it under control. The outreach building suffered “significant” damage, according to MFRD. The fire was contained to the outreach building, although adjacent businesses had varying amounts of smoke.
There were no injuries in the incident and investigators are reviewing the scene as an accidental fire.
