Orlando firefighter honored with hero award for rescuing Seminole County deputy

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando Fire Department Lt. Ben Wootson was honored on “Hero Day” Sunday morning for rescuing a Seminole County deputy trapped in his wrecked vehicle.

In March, Wootson rushed in to save the life of Deputy Matt Luxon from his burning patrol car after he crashed into a bridge.

Surrounded by colleagues and family, Wootson was presented the “Hero Award” at the Orlando Baptist Church for his bravery as a first responder.

Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith and Orange County Sheriff John Mina also attended.
