Reward offered for killer of 2 brothers shot on July 4

A $10,000 reward is offered for information in the killings of two brothers, who were both shot on July 4 in Essex County.

Malik A. McCallister, 38, and Tarik R. “Reek” Barnes, 42, who lived together in Union County, were shot about 12:30 a.m. on Montrose Terrace in Irvington. Both brothers were pronounced dead the next day at hospitals in Newark, officials said.

No arrests have been made and no other information about the case has been made public.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer or killers, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II Sheriff Armando Fontoura.

The brothers, who were the eldest of three sons, lived together in Rahway., according to the prosecutor’s office.

According to their obituaries, Tarik Barnes was the father of two sons and was engaged to be married to his childhood sweetheart on Aug. 18. Malik McCallister was the father of three sons and had been married since May 2018.
