SPCA: Reward offered after cat found shot

A cat shot with a pellet that’s now lodged in his spine has been found on the North Fork, according to a Facebook post Saturday offering a $4,000 reward for tips about the person or persons responsible for “this heinous act of animal cruelty.”

The cat was found Monday in Aquebogue near Southfields Road and West Lane, according to the post from the Suffolk SPCA. It was taken to an animal hospital and has been named Abraham, the post said.

The $4,000 reward is being offered by the SPCA and a group called Strong Island Rescue, the post said.

Strong Island’s president, Frankie Floridia, is caring for the cat, the post said.

“This horrific attack is a reminder of the dangers that cats face when they are left outdoors unprotected,” the post said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the SPCA at 631-382-7722.
