A seventh grader from Massachusetts saved himself and his schoolmates when their bus driver passed out due to a medical emergency, causing him to take over behind the wheel.

Dillion Reeves,13, was heading home with 66 other students when surveillance footage showed the bus driver becoming lightheaded and passing out on Wednesday. According to the Daily Mail, the driver attempted to notify dispatchers on her radio that she felt very dizzy and tried to pull over.

Before she could stop the bus, she started shaking and slumped over the steering wheel. Reeves ran to the front of the school bus to hold on to the steering wheel and used the brake ped,al To park the bus. He also told his friends to contact 911. Authorities said there were no injuries and the bus driver was transported to a local hospital.

The Warren Consolidated School administration released a statement praising Reeves for his heroic actions

‘He stood up, he assessed the situation and saw that the driver had passed out. This was an extraordinary act of courage. He jumped up from his seat, threw his backpack down, ran to the front and grabbed the wheel and brought the bus to a stop.’Superintendent Robert Livernois said during the press conference.

His father, Steven, said his son is very attentive to his surroundings and he’s very proud of his bravery

‘Very, very proud. This is overwhelming for all of us. This is national at this point. He is very attentive to his surroundings.’

The teen said he learned how to control the school bus by watching the bus driver everyday. Neighbors also rewarded Reeves by gifting the family a ‘Hero’ sign on their front yard. The Warren Police Department will gift the teen an award at a later date.

‘He’s really a great guy this year. He’s come a long way. Great grades, experiences at school with friends. To do something like this fills my heart and makes my heart skip a beat,” his mother Ireta Reeves said.

‘Jesus had everything to do with the bravery and swift action Dillon displayed today. To Dillon, it’s just another day. He has no idea the amount of people who are so proud of him today.’

A similar incident happened years ago when a boy saved his classmates after their bus driver had a heart attack.
