‘I’m devastated’: Memphis woman pleads for safe return after car stolen with her dog inside

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A stolen car, a missing dog and an armed bank robbery.

Sadly, these things are all connected.

A Memphis woman said her car was stolen from a local grocery store while her dog was inside. Lynn Bugg is now asking for help locating her German Shepherd-Husky mix named Yoshi.

“I don’t care about the car,” she told FOX13. “It’s just stuff. It’s insured, but I want my dog back.”

Bugg said her car was stolen Thursday, May 2, 2024, from The Fresh Market parking lot on Union Avenue as she was inside the store.

“Went inside, came back out and the car was gone,” Bugg said. “At first, I second guessed myself. I was thinking, ‘Well, maybe, I parked in a different spot.'”

She added: “I’m devastated. Yoshi, I’ve had her for 14 years.”

“All she wants to do is be with me,” Bugg said. “She’s my constant companion and her back legs are getting feeble and old, and her hearing is gone. She’s an old lady and I just want her back home.”

Yoshi is 15 years old whose hair is mostly white but with some brownish and gold color. She has a left ear with polka dots and a shaved area on her foreleg for an IV.

According to court records, the Memphis Police Department (MPD) responded about 5:30 p.m. Thursday to a car theft at 2145 Union Avenue, the location of The Fresh Market.

FOX13 learned a black Infiniti G-37 was stolen from the location.

Court documents obtained Friday confirmed that Arkansas State Police (ASP) pursued a bank robbery suspect who was driving a car believed to be the Infiniti.

ASP said that the suspect crashed the car and ran but was later captured.

The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Freddy Dah Nagil.

“I don’t know what motivates you to do something as violent as to take a gun in and rob a bank,” Bugg said, referring to the alleged bank robbery. “It’s horrible to do that to people.”

Nagil is charged with theft of property, evading arrest and possession of a handgun as a convicted felon, records show.

Bugg told FOX13 that Yoshi is registered as a missing dog at the Memphis Animal Shelter.

She is offering a $2,000 reward for the return of her dog.

Anyone who locates Yoshi is urged to call Memphis Police at 901-545-2677.
