Pamlico deputies seek help to locate boat thief, $500 reward offered

The Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of a boat thief that has yet to be apprehended.

John Matthew Nigh, 36 of Reelsboro has been identified as the suspect, according to deputies. Nigh faces charges for breaking and entering of a vehicle and larceny.

Deputies responded to the Dawson’s Creek area for reports of a stolen boat on Friday, June 7. The owner reported the boat stolen and was seen crossing the Neuse River headed towards Adams Creek, per officials.

Following tips submitted by citizens the boat was later found abandoned in Carteret County near Harlowe Creek.

Law enforcement say if you spot Nigh, do not approach him. He should be considered dangerous.
