FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) – Police are searching for the people responsible for stealing nine exotic birds from the TPA Park Aviary in Frankfort.

On Sunday, June 9, at 9:15 am, somebody cut a square hole into the netting of the aviary, and stole four Macaws, three Amazon Parrots, one African Grey Parrot, and an African Ringneck Parakeet.

“These are like our animals. It’s so awful,” Superintendent of Frankfort Parks, Joel Tatum said. “This aviary has been here for 32 years, and this is the first time something like this has happened.”

Frankfort Police Chief, Scott Shoemaker, said the total value of the nine birds is roughly $30,000. He says it’s all hands on deck to retrieve the animals.

“Leads me to believe that this was theft with intention to sell the birds and make money,” Shoemaker said. “It’s priority one for us right now.”

A “local resident” is also offering a one thousand dollar reward to who ever can help find the birds, Shoemaker added. He said they’re currently going over hours of security footage, and persons of interests.
