Salvation Army van stolen in Hilo

A cargo van used to support local outreach for The Salvation Army in Hilo was stolen sometime between Monday and Tuesday, according to a release from the Hawaii Police Department.

The van was used for a variety of social services and was stolen from the Salvation Army’s parking lot located at 219 Ponahawai St.

The van is a white 2006 Ford E-350 extended cargo van with Hawaii license plate 917HDK.

“We use this van for food pick-ups to support our food pantry and homeless feeding and different thrift store duties,” said Capt. Sam LeMar, Hawaii County coordinator for the Salvation Army in Hilo. “Not having our van creates logistical challenges for all of our outreach programs.”

Police are asking anyone with information related to the can to call Officer Bradley Waiki at (808) 935-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 808-961-8300.

Those with information may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
