Gaylord Man Arrested for Child Abuse

Michigan State Police have arrested a Gaylord Man for child abuse after he ran into the woods with his son who was not dressed properly for the weather conditions.

On Wednesday, troopers from the MSP Gaylord Post responded to a 911 call at a house on Grouse Drive in Bagley Township. They say a woman reported her boyfriend, Mark Mischley, ran into the woods with his 3-year-old son after having an argument with her. The son was not dressed properly for the freezing weather conditions.

A K9 team and additional troopers were called and quickly established a perimeter around the large, wooded area. Trooper Deuman and his K9 partner Chief began tracking Mischley and were able to find him and his son lying under a tree.

Troopers say the child was not wearing any shoes and showed early signs of hypothermia. He was placed into a warm patrol car while Mischley was arrested without incident and lodged at the Otsego County Jail.

MSP says the child was turned over to his grandmother and CPS was notified of the incident.

Mischley was arraigned Thursday for one count Child Abuse Third Degree and given a $5,000 cash bond.

His next scheduled court appearance is set for Dec. 22.
