Reward offered for information leading to arrest in October homicide in Columbus


James Johnson, 29, was killed on Oct. 20, 2020 outside a West Side gas station. His case remains unsolved.

Five months after a man was shot and killed at a gas station on the West Side, Central Ohio Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.

On Oct. 20, 2020, James Johnson, 29, of the Far West Side, was shot around 4 a.m. outside the Sunoco gas station, located at 2281 Sullivant Ave. 

Police received a ShotSpotter alert at the gas station and then shortly thereafter got a 911 call about a shooting at the United Dairy Farmers store located at 530 Hague Ave. 

Johnson was found inside a Honda Element in the parking lot of the UDF.

An investigation determined there had been two suspects involved with the shooting who fled the Sunoco in a red and gold Pontiac Montana that was being driven by a female. 

Johnson was taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, where he died.
