Woman praised as ‘local hero’ after dramatically saving man from burning car

A woman who saved a man from a flaming car in Yorkshire has been described as a ‘local hero’.

As our colleagues at Hull Live report, the woman saved the man’s life when a car went up in flames on Hessle Road, Hull, on Friday, April 28. The frightening incident happened at 6pm.

The black four-by-four car went up in flames on a busy stretch of Hessle Road. After seeing the rear of the car catch fire and noticing the owner was still inside, a woman sprang to action and alerted him to the danger by banging on the window and helping him out of the vehicle. Two minutes later, the entire car went up in flames, engulfing the cabin.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed their attendance at the scene, with one hose reel and small tools used to extinguish the fire.

Sharing the news on Facebook, Cari posted: “I am in sooo much shock. I went to Heron’s on Hessle Road as I’m walking up to it I see a car boot on fire.

“I go up to the car an a elderly man’s sat in it waiting for his wife to come out of chippy. So I have to start banging on the window, helping him out because he didn’t have a clue what was going on or that his car was on fire while he was sat in it. Got the man out and about two mins later it all went up. I’m so happy he’s alive and nothing happened to him.”

Responding to the post, Jo-Anne said: “Thank you so much. That’s my Dad, he’s just recovered from a big operation and you’ve just saved him from what could have been a really horrific accident. Thank you.”

Debbie was very impressed, commenting: “She deserves a medal for doing that good job she got him out it could have been so much worse if I was her I’d be proper proud of the fact she saved someone’s life.”
