More than a dozen horses died in an early morning barn fire Friday in north Houston, fire officials said.
Houston Fire Department reported to a structure fire at 1:56 a.m. in the 4800 block of Linn Street, department spokesperson Martee Black said.
Firefighters arrived at 2:02 a.m. and were able to save six horses, but between 15-20 horses died, Black said.
The owners of the horses were not at the scene and no people were injured, according to a tweet from HFD.
Black said that one firefighter suffered minor injuries from a horse kick and was treated at the scene.
The department’s Arson Bureau is investigating the cause of the fire.
