Firefighter saves cat from burning building

Local firefighters pulled a cat from a burning home this weekend. Edinburgh police and fire were dispatched Saturday to a residential fire in the 400 block of E. Thompson Street, where an upstairs apartment was fully engulfed in flames, according to an Edinburgh Fire Department news release. Edinburgh firefighters made the initial attack while assisting agencies responded to extinguish the fire, according to the news release. “This team effort not only quickly prevented the spread of the fire to other apartments, but the team saved the life of the family cat that was still inside the fire,” Edinburgh fire chief Doyne Little said in the news release. A Franklin firefighter carried the cat out of the fire, and Seal medics gave it oxygen to save its life, the news release said. Amity, Franklin, German Township and Nineveh fire departments, and Prince’s Lakes police also responded.
